The FY05 Defense Appropriations Bill contains $1.1 million to establish an Air Force “Center of Excellence” to study the human factors which enhance: the building and sustaining of shared situation awareness between crew members performing as ground-based and airborne battle-managers; Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) asset controllers; and air combat pilots during Network-Centric Operations (NCO). Initial work at the Center will be designed to develop algorithms and control/display interface technologies to enhance UAV operator anticipatory decision making, evaluate multiple courses of action, predict target location and adversary reactions, and develop ‘what if’ analyses. The Center will be administered by SYTRONICS, Inc., in Dayton through AFRL/HECI at Wright-Patterson AFB.
